A bill of material or parts list system is used to document all parts of a product which will be required for production later. All parts-relevant data, like e.g. material, weight, center of gravity, color, etc. are collected and saved. Sales codes which are stored for each part variant allow a fast and error-proof retrieval of any specific product variant in accordance with the customer specifications to be provided to production. All units involved in the product engineering process (development & engineering, production, sales and customer services) access the same data basis.
